History of the Posse

Posse Comitatus is the legal power of the sheriff to summon armed citizens to aid in keeping the peace and suppress lawlessness.  Dating as far back as 9th Century England, Posse Comitatus translates to "Power of the County."

Often shortened to simply "posse", we proudly serve the citizens of Iron County.
